Leather Armchair Surfacing Study

This project explores the characteristics of leather and how its surface quality transforms and wears over time with regular use. My focus areas included the headrest, armrests, and seat cushion, along with smaller details throughout. For the headrest, I observed from my reference that the wear tends to look different here due to the natural oils from the head and hair. Not only does this area sink back from repeated pressure, but the wear also becomes darker and forms a circular pattern, following the shape of the head. To capture that natural, time-worn feel, I modified the geometry by adding a subtle sinking look to both the headrest and the seat cushion. I also included some scuffs and scratches along the armrests and edges of the chair, to really give the feel that this chair has been lived in.
